Kirkin' o' the Tartan
We held our first Evensong and Kirkin' o’ the Tartan in several years Sunday, October 17, 2010. The service, a celebration of Scottish heritage, featured our 25-member choir and two pipers and drummers from The Nicholson Pipes and Drum, along with a blessing of tartans – the plaid fabric designs particularly associated with Scotland. Scottish dancers performed after the service. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland.

In 2011, we celebrated St. Andrew’s day a “wee” bit early, on Sunday, November 13. Officially, St. Andrew’s Day is November 30; the apostle called by our Lord, and should be celebrated on the Sunday closest to that date. However, that Sunday is also celebrated in the new church year which begins the First Sunday of Advent, November 27th.
We were honored in having our Bishop Suffragan Diane Bruce as the celebrant for Evensong and a “Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan”. Two pipers and a drummer participated in the service and followed at the Ceilidh (pronounced KAY-lee; Celtic for “party”) with Celtic music, and Scottish highland dancers.
