In Christian theology, baptism is the infusion of God’s life into the baptized. In baptism, we are made a part of the Mystical Body of Christ, the Communion of Saints, and a member of the Church.
Commitment is to God through the Lord Jesus and to the life of the believing community (commitment made for a child by the parents and then confirmed by the baptized when they reach adulthood). The candidate or parent must intend a continuing participation in the life of the church, that is, regular worship, instruction, and support of the community’s mission.
Baptism is normally celebrated within the community to which the candidate and/or parents belong. Our clergy are glad to talk about baptism with candidates or parents.
